Privacy.

The short version: this site collects the minimum data needed to function, never sells your information, and gives you control over the optional analytics layer through the cookie banner in the footer.

Data controller

The data controller for this site is Anže Frantar, operating as a sole proprietor based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. For any privacy enquiry, write to anze@failagainfailbetter.com.

What is collected

Three categories of data are collected on this site, each only where needed:

  1. Essential request data: IP address and basic browser headers (user agent), held in standard web server logs. This is required to serve the site at all and to mitigate abuse.
  2. Form submissions: when you use the contact form, your name, email, company, and message are stored only so I can reply to you. They are never used for marketing.
  3. Optional analytics (Google Analytics 4): only if you click "Accept all" in the cookie banner. See the next section for the full detail.

Google Analytics 4

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (property ID G-1QTLQ0D1SE) to understand which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. GA only runs after you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner. Until then no analytics cookies are set and no events are sent (Google Consent Mode v2, default denied).

What is collected when consent is granted:

  • Pageview events (URL, page title, referrer)
  • Device and browser type, screen size, language
  • Approximate location (country and region, derived from IP). The full IP is not stored by GA4.
  • Engagement metrics (time on page, scroll depth, outbound clicks)

What is not done:

  • No advertising signals. allow_ad_personalization_signals is set to false.
  • No Google Signals (cross-device tracking). allow_google_signals is set to false.
  • No remarketing, no advertising audiences, no data shared with Google Ads.
  • No fingerprinting beyond what GA4 inherently does (which is itself minimal).

The legal basis for analytics is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking "Cookie preferences" in the footer and choosing "Reject optional", which clears the GA cookies on this domain.

Why

To run a functioning website, to reply to people who write in, and, only with your consent, to understand which writing actually gets read so I can spend my time on things that matter.

Retention

  • Server logs: rotated and deleted within 30 days.
  • Form submissions: kept in my inbox as long as the conversation is active, then archived. Deleted on request.
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months (the minimum GA4 retention period), then automatically deleted.

International transfers

Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited, established in the EU. Analytics traffic may be processed on Google servers outside the EU/EEA. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which serves as the legal mechanism for any such transfers under GDPR Art. 45. You can read Google's privacy policy and Data Processing Terms directly.

Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete any personal data I hold about you. Write to anze@failagainfailbetter.com and I will action the request within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Slovenian Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec).
